Unlike usual propanganda, this particular sort of message stands out for not wanting the observer to follow a specific idea, only suggesting that in an apparently free democratic system, a highly defined and effective program is in place and active in not only controlling our opinions but actually manufacturing our consent to a unique unquestionable way of thought.
Welcome to modern totalitarism. Freedom is Slavery, War is Peace, can we fully realize how lucid Orwell really was?
Shall we awaken to the dangerous power and delicacy of communication?
This clearly political statement is evidently linked with graphic design as it has shown throughout history. Men have for ever been manipulated by the potency of strong imagery and symbolism delivered by the hands of the unwary or mad. In the past, opposants were taken care of very straightforwardly by being threatened, tortured and killed.
But nowadays a new ideology goes on ensnaring us without the use of arms.
“It may be good to have power based on weapons. It is better and longer
lasting, however, to win and hold the heart of a nation.”
(Dr. Joesph Goebbles, German Propanganda Minister, Nuremberg 1934)

Don’t we know that so much of what is commonly thought is actually what is wanted for us to think?
So that we never awake… So that the perpetual war goes on…
But how are we to inspire a way towards awareness?

Here are some interesting references on the matter:

– Chomsky & Cie (O.Azam, Daniel Mermet, les Mutins de Pangée, 2008)

Thank you Noam Chomsky and all the rest of the active network for your enlightenment. We won’t be fooled again.
